Shabu- Shabu 101

May 20, 2017 (Sorry it's late!!)

Ok… just the next day after my first ever grill buffet experience, I had my first ever Shabu-Shabu. Where? At the “Healthy Shabu-Shabu” in Festival Mall. (by the way I’m from Laguna).

Since this is my first time ever, I am completely clueless with how the food tastes like and what food exactly is involved. Whenever I hear the term Shabu-Shabu, the only thing that comes to my mind is we will cook our food on the spot and eat it.

For those who will do it for the first time, I suggest that it’s better to get yourself familiar with the ingredients and with the shop that you will chose or chose to visit or if you know anyone who’s familiar with that, kindly ask for their advice and suggestions. Me, Thank God I have my eldest sister, Ate Davey who was actually craving for Shabu-Shabu that day. She just wanted me to experience it since I’m beginning to love food.

My sister and me with the ingredients: mine was chicken breast and pork for her.
To start, first choose and go to your desired Shabu-Shabu Shop. If you don’t know any, ask Google..aahahaha..then, upon arrival, check the menu. In my experience in Healthy Shabu-Shabu, they serve the ingredients by set and the price depends on the meat that you will choose. On their menu, they have set for beef, pork, chicken, and seafood. Every set includes a plate of vegetables with noodles and oden, minced garlic, onion chives, 1 pc. egg and a specialty sauce.

Chicken breasts.

Tenderloin Pork.

Once the ingredients was served, well the next thing is...cooking time!! So turn on the induction to heat the soup stocks. You can start putting your ingredients before or while the soup is boiling. For the meat, it is suggested that we mixed it with the egg instead of dipping the slice one by one before putting it in the soup. I'm not sure where my sister got that. (I'm sorry, I didn't made any research about it..heehhee...)

just mixing everything...ahahahaha....

My sister told me that to enjoy Shabu-Shabu, is first you eat all the ingredients: oden, vegetables, and meat . I'm not sure if it's correct to call the those as toppings but when you eat everything you put in the soup, you have to dip it first in the specialty sauce (which is mixed with minced garlic and onion chives) because basically, your food are all kinda tasteless. So I guess one of the aim of Shabu-Shabu is extracting the natural flavor of your fresh ingredients while eating it. I love that idea because I am completely sure that what I'm eating is real food and it's healthy. Then, the last thing you will enjoy is the flavorful soup. If I were to explain the soup that I made, it's almost taste like "nilagang baka"  or beef stew without the beef. In other words, I'll say that it's almost a beef stew but not or a failed beef stew because it has pechay, but it doesn't have beef.

I don't know what I'm doing, So I just mixed everything..haahahah...
This experience reminds me of my childhood game "Lutu-lutan". I really enjoy it. I'm sure in the future I'm gonna do it again and try it with other shops.

Wait! there's more! we have a free Japanese Halo-Halo for dessert!

I failed to capture my actual Halo-Halo. This photo posted is by someone else. I do not own it ok? but this is the Japanese Halo-Halo that is served in Healthy Shabu-Shabu.

That ends up my Shabu-Shabu 101. All I can say is it's a must try. I hope you enjoy reading!

Review: Kalye Unligrill

May 19, 2017

Ok…since I suddenly became a food lover though I’m not sure if I have the right to consider myself for the title of “Foodie”, well just like what I often do on my IG, I wanted to share some of my “foodie” experience.

Let me start with the most recent food trip I had with my beloved: Kalye Unligrill.

Actual Picture

From the name itself, it’s "unlimited grill", as in “grill all you can”. I am not sure where the "Kalye" came from for they are not located on street..ahahaahaha just kidding!. Anyway this is the first grill buffet experience we had and I guess the first one in Laguna. For the price of Php. 348-388 as promotional price, depending on the day, with inclusion of unlimited soup, desserts, and drinks, it’s completely “sulit”!

How did we found out about this? Simple! Through Facebook sponsored post. When I first saw the post, I capture it and send it to Charlie my beloved with the question if he knows it since this is located in his place. He said he don’t. Ok…then just last week, when he himself saw the post, he mentioned my name on the comment section of the post and asked me if when can we come there….until on Friday, May 19, without any plans, we went there.

So upon arrival, we we’re listed on queuing since they have a lot of pending customers. We were reserved as 11th. No wonder since it was dinner time, and of course everyone wants to try it since it’s a talk of the town. So after being listed, we did a sneak peek inside the restaurant and waited.

First set of what to grill

Second set of what to grill

There’s variety of meat, fish, and some processed food that is available to grill which are thinly sliced so it’s easy to cook. And of course intestines, liver, pig ears, barbeque, and some of our all-time favorite on the stick grill are present. I remember getting salmon, which I almost burn, but still I was able to eat it. Ahahahha!! Well we enjoy grilling. It’s like playing “Lutu-lutuan” in real life. I also made my own marinade, ‘cause I am not sure if all the meat there are marinated. I guess they are not. Besides there’s a section there that has condiments: soy sauce, vinegar, chopped onions, garlic, chili, sliced calamansi, salt, tomatoes, and salted eggs. There is also a section for the specialty sauces. So while grilling, I put garnish. Also they have provided tongs and brushes. Everything tasted good especially those we didn’t burn…well of course we already learned the art of grilling…haahahaha…so next time we visit here, we will surely not burn anything.

currently grilling: chicken breast, betamax, salmon and pork.
Me and Charlie
Please don't mind my looks. I know I look haggard here but I don't care because I'm seizing the moment.
I wasn’t able to capture everything I saw, I mean everything that is unlimited here…hahahah…but we did really enjoy the experience of this first ever unli-buffet. I will surely visit this place again… I’m looking forward to bring my family and friends here to share the experience.

So to anyone who will be able to read this blog, I recommend KALYE UNLIGRILL for you to taste and experience. Just in case you will, here’s the address:

9001 Manila S Rd, BiƱan, 4024 Laguna, Philippines.

Hope you enjoy reading!

P.S. Sorry for the late post!!!
